In 2009 it was adapted into a film which did no justice to the wonderful book.
The story is about the human perspective on the image of beauty and what it means to call something beautiful. Dorian Gray is a young man infatuated with his good looks, in turn so his everyone. But as he becomes more selfish and self indulgent his sanity slowly begins to slip away from himself. I found the film was to off balanced, where the book excelled the film failed in delivering. Especially the important messages of self respect and idea of trust. Ben Barnes made a great attempt on his character of Dorian, but portrayed him more as a childish playboy than an indulgent man who was scarred from his past and running towards the future. Colin Firth brought his character of Henry Wotton to life, by creating such a repulsive and shallow minded man that it was nearly impossible to hate. Oliver Parker was not the first to adapt tho iconic story but in doing so he could have done better, instead of reading a witty tale about human desire instead the film is a bit too saucy and devilish for Wilde fans.
